Carroll highlights successes in park development, public safety, and community support.
Councilman Mike Carroll, representing District 4 on the Irvine City Council, is seeking re-election this November, building on what he says is a record of significant accomplishments.
Carroll also serves as the chairman of the Great Park, Irvine’s 1,300-acre park under development. He also actively updates the community on the park's progress and invites public input. His leadership in launching a $1 billion development plan aims to make the Great Park one of the nation's premier public parks.
Among his first-term achievements, Carroll successfully halted the construction of over 100 high-density homes on recreational land, secured funding for seniors with mobility needs, and established the Gateway Preserve and open space trails.
Additionally, Carroll is involved in the Irvine Community Land Trust, promoting affordable housing, and has served on the city's Community Services and Planning Commissions. His re-election campaign focuses on enhancing public safety, improving parks and open spaces, supporting local schools, and reducing traffic through better road design and transit options.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Carroll's leadership was evident as he spearheaded Orange County’s first city-sponsored testing program at the Great Park, provided meals and deliveries to residents in need, and operated a COVID-19 hotline that assisted over 2,300 people.
Carroll's campaign has garnered endorsements from figures such as former mayor Don Wagner and Irvine School Board President Lauren Brooks, alongside numerous other current and former officials.
He faces challengers Nerissa MacLeod and Ayn Craciun, both of whom have received nomination papers for the District 4 council seat. District 4 encompasses Turtle Rock, Turtle Ridge, Quail Hill, Oak Creek, Orangetree, Los Olivos, Spectrum, Laguna Altura, Shady Canyon, and Hidden Canyon.
Irvine’s general city elections will be held on November 5.
